Beard Builder Wild Turkey Nutritional Supplement

Blending the Concentrate
  • Beard Builder pellets are sized to mix and flow well with whole kernel corn or milo. We recommend mixing the concentrate with 50 to 100 lbs. of grain. However, our research on captive wild turkeys shows that Beard Builder is safe and increasingly effective when fed at 5 times this rate.
  • The concentrate can be blended by hand with corn or milo as the feeder or storage container is being filled.

How to Feed
  • Because the beard of the tom turkey grows year round and turkeys experience nutritional deficiencies at various times due to weather stresses, plant successions, and other seasonal changes, the key to supplemental feeding of wild turkeys is having the proper nutrition available on a continuous basis so the turkeys can balance their diets as needed.
  • FeatherTech has developed and recommends the FT-1 Game Bird Feeder as an effective and economical way to provide supplemental nutrition to wild turkeys on a continuous, free-choice basis and minimize consumption by non-target species. There are other free-choice feeders on the market that can also be used.
  • The FT-1 Game Bird feeder is designed to provide a feeder pan height of approximately 14 inches above the ground. It is also adjustable so that it can be lowered for smaller game birds and for increased used by young turkey poults. With the FT-1 feeder, you can adjust the feed flow rate to minimize scavenger feeding.
  • Beard Builder can be fed by automated broadcast feeder or hand casting. However, this may increase the consumption by non-target animals. If you are specifically targeting wild turkeys by broadcast feeding, we recommend that you either feed more during the middle of the day when other animals such as deer are less likely to visit the feeder, and/or feed at regular intervals that the turkeys become accustomed to.

Where to Feed
  • Beard Builder should be fed to turkeys away from dense cover to minimize the potential for exposure to predators.
  • Depending upon the size and habitat quality of your property, Beard Builder should be fed at a number of different locations to encourage turkeys to forage on natural vegetation and insects in multiple areas.
  • Feed Beard Builder away from hunting pressure to maximize the use and nutritional benefit.
  • Provide supplemental feed to wild turkeys in areas that are not frequented by or near domestic poultry to avoid transmission of diseases from the domestic birds to the flock of wild turkeys. Some domestic poultry diseases can devastate a flock of wild turkeys or create a situation where they must be destroyed to stop the spread of the disease.
